Therapy Explained

The aim of counselling and psychotherapy is to increase self-awareness, and help to make changes that feel right for you. Sometimes we may feel stuck with an issue and might wish to reflect on our lives from a new perspective. It could be that a stressful situation or traumatic event leaves us feeling vulnerable and unable to cope. By being listened to with empathy, it can help you to deal with, and overcome issues that are difficult or causing distress or unhappiness.

It may be that you want to discuss a current life event, or something that has been troubling you for some time. Seeing a therapist means talking with someone in a confidential, reflective and caring space. This can help you explore issues and understand your situation and emotions more fully, helping you to feel happier and stronger and with a greater sense of control.

Being able to gain insight facilitates greater self-awareness, understanding and enhances self-esteem and confidence which promotes an improved quality of life. Counselling and psychotherapy can also help facilitate inner calm, self-healing and ongoing maintenance of emotional wellbeing.
